A specialized Research and Seed Production unit within the SAATEN-UNION organization of family-owned German plant breeders, French based SAATEN-UNION Recherche (“SUR”) develops hybrid and conventional wheat varieties for temperate climates.

With their unique ability to consistently produce more grain with less input, SAATEN-UNION Recherche wheat hybrids are getting increasing recognition from farmers across Europe and beyond, to meet the challenge of feeding the world.

SAATEN-UNION hybrid wheat seed, which is produced with the use of SUR exclusive CROISOR® chemical technology, has been sown by farmers in 15 European countries over more than 250 000 hectares in 2015, making SAATEN-UNION the world leader for hybrid wheat. In recent years following CROISOR's full EU approval, sales have grown at a high rate and are expected to reach a million hectares by 2020.

Besides conventional and hybrid wheat, SUR has started a CMS hybrid barley program expected to deliver its first varieties before the end of the decade.
